Barkpedia (“the App”) is a free iOS application that identifies dog breeds from photos. Your privacy is fundamental to how we built this app. Here’s exactly how your information is handled.

What Data We Collect
None. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The App contains no user accounts, no analytics SDKs, no advertising frameworks, and no third-party tracking tools.
How Your Photos Are Handled
The App requests camera and photo library permissions solely to let you photograph or select images of dogs for breed identification. Photos you take or select are analyzed entirely on your device using on-device intelligence. Your photos are never uploaded to any server.
What’s Stored on Your Device
- Favorites — Breed scan results you choose to save are stored locally on your device only.
- Explore data — The breed search index and country-of-origin map data are bundled within the app itself.
- Map rendering — The interactive world map uses Apple Maps (MapKit), which renders locally on your device.
None of this data is transmitted externally. All of it is automatically removed when you delete the App.
Network Requests
The App connects to the following services solely to fetch display content (breed profiles, images, and game questions):
| Service | Purpose | Personal Data Sent |
|---|---|---|
| The Dog API | Breed information (temperament, stats, history) | None |
| dogapi.dog | Additional breed info and dog facts for trivia | None |
| Dog CEO API | Breed images and quiz photos | None |
| Wikipedia | Breed reference images | None |
These are standard content-fetch requests. No personal data, device identifiers, or tracking information is included in any request.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties. There is no user data to share.
Permissions We Request
| Permission | Why We Ask | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To photograph dogs for breed identification | Optional — you can use your photo library instead |
| Photo Library | To select existing photos for breed identification | Optional — you can use the camera instead |
That’s it. The App does not request or access location, contacts, microphone, Bluetooth, tracking (ATT), notifications, or any other sensitive permissions.
Data Retention and Deletion
Since we collect no data on our servers, there is nothing to retain or delete on our end. All locally stored data — including favorites and scan history — is automatically removed when you delete the App from your device.
Your Rights
Because Barkpedia collects no personal data, there is no user data to access, export, correct, or delete from our systems. You maintain full control over everything stored locally on your device.
Children’s Privacy
The App does not collect information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Because no personal data is gathered, the App is safe for users of all ages and complies with COPPA requirements.
International Users
Because Barkpedia collects no personal data, no cross-border data transfer of personal information occurs. Content-fetch requests to third-party services (breed info, images) contain no personal data or device identifiers regardless of your location.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
