Barkpedia (“the App”) is a free iOS application that identifies dog breeds from photos. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how the App handles your information.
Data We Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data from you. The App has no user accounts, no analytics, and no advertising.
Photos
Photos you take or select are processed entirely on your device using on-device machine learning. Your photos are never uploaded to any server.
Scan History
Breed scan results you save to Favorites are stored locally on your device. This data never leaves your device.
Third-Party Services
The App connects to the following third-party services solely to fetch content for display:
- Dog CEO API (https://dog.ceo) — provides dog images for the breed quiz.
- The Dog API (https://thedogapi.com) — provides breed information and images.
- dogapi.dog (https://dogapi.dog) — provides dog facts for the trivia feature.
- Wikipedia (https://wikipedia.org) — provides fallback breed images when other sources are unavailable.
These requests fetch content only. No personal data or device identifiers are sent to these services.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third parties.
Permissions
The App requests the following device permission:
- Camera — Used to take photos of dogs for breed identification. Photos are processed entirely on your device and are never uploaded to any server.
No other permissions (location, contacts, microphone, tracking, notifications, etc.) are requested.
Data Retention and Deletion
Since we do not collect or store any personal data on our servers, there is no user data to retain or delete. All data stored locally on your device (scan history, favorites) can be removed at any time by deleting the App from your device.
Children’s Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Because the App collects no personal data, it is safe for users of all ages.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
