How does breed identification work?

Barkpedia uses on-device machine learning to analyze photos and identify dog breeds. All processing happens locally on your device, and your photos are never uploaded anywhere.

Do I need an internet connection?

Breed identification works entirely offline using on-device machine learning. Saved favorites are also available offline. An internet connection is needed for breed details, the breed quiz, and dog trivia.

Why wasn’t my dog’s breed recognized correctly?

The model works best with clear, well-lit photos where the dog is the main subject. Try taking the photo from a different angle or in better lighting. Mixed-breed dogs may show the closest matching breed.

Where is my data stored?

All scan history and favorites are stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to external servers.

How do I delete my saved favorites?

You can delete individual favorites by swiping left on them in the Favorites tab.

How do the Quiz and Trivia games work?

Both games require an internet connection. The Breed Quiz shows you a dog photo and asks you to guess the breed from four choices. Dog Trivia presents true-or-false statements about dogs. Each round is 10 questions, and you’ll earn a reward title based on your score.

Is Barkpedia free?

Yes, Barkpedia is completely free with no in-app purchases and no ads.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your photos never leave your device and no personal data is collected. See our full Privacy Policy for details.

Troubleshooting

The camera isn’t working

Make sure you’ve granted Barkpedia camera access in Settings > Barkpedia > Camera. If the issue persists, try restarting the app.

The app is crashing

Please make sure you’re running the latest version of Barkpedia from the App Store. If the problem continues, try restarting your device.

Breed info or quiz images aren’t loading

These features require an internet connection. Check that your device is connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
